Dental Bridges in London

A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth with a false tooth held by crowns on the teeth either side of the gap. It is fixed in place, so you eat and speak with it as with your own teeth. A consultation with Dr Ope Sodeinde confirms which type of bridge suits your gap.

Replacing a missing tooth

A gap does not stay still. The neighbouring teeth drift into it, the tooth opposite over-erupts, and the bite changes. Gaps also trap food and plaque, which puts the teeth either side at risk. Bridges are part of the general and family dentistry in London we provide to restore a stable bite.

We take a medical history and use dental x-rays to check the roots and bone of the teeth that will carry the bridge, keeping radiation exposure to a minimum. Dr Sodeinde and the team use that record to decide whether a bridge is the right choice.

Planning your bridge

A bridge is only as sound as the teeth that hold it. We assess the gums and bone around the anchor teeth before recommending one. If there is an active infection, we carry out dental abscess treatment first.

You receive an itemised quote before any work begins, so you know what the bridge, and any preparatory work, will cost.

Bridges last longer with clean gums, so we build professional teeth cleaning into your maintenance plan.

Who is suitable for a bridge

Patients with one or more missing teeth whose neighbouring teeth are strong enough to carry the bridge. The health of those teeth and of the gums is the deciding factor, which we check at our Primrose Hill practice with dental x-rays. Where the bite is unstable, our TMJ and jaw pain treatment may need to come first. If you have avoided the dentist because of anxiety, we plan the visits at your pace.

How a bridge is fitted

Clinical assessment

We examine your teeth and gums, confirm whether a bridge is the right choice, and explain the type and cost. Any other work needed first, such as dental fillings, is planned at this stage.

Preparing the anchor teeth

Under local anaesthetic we shape the teeth either side of the gap to receive the crowns that carry the bridge. We tell you how many visits the work will take.

Taking impressions

We take impressions of the prepared teeth and the bite so the laboratory can make a bridge that matches your other teeth in shape and shade. If you have symptoms of night-time breathing problems, this is also when we discuss whether sleep apnoea devices are relevant.

Fitting the bridge

We check the fit and the bite, then bond the bridge permanently to the anchor teeth.

Review

A follow-up confirms the bridge is stable and the bite is comfortable, and we show you how to clean beneath it.

Clinical standards

Our clinical lead is Dr Ope Sodeinde, GDC-registered specialist periodontist (GDC No. 104071). The teeth that carry a bridge must have healthy gums and bone, so this is checked by a periodontist before the bridge is planned.

Patient experiences with tooth replacement

Patients tell us they value an unhurried manner and honest options. If a bridge is not the right choice, we explain the alternatives, such as dentures.

Dental anxiety is common, and we explain each step before we take it.

Bridge questions

How much do dental bridges cost?

The fee depends on the type of bridge and the number of teeth it replaces. You receive a full breakdown after the examination and before any work begins.

How long do dental bridges last?

That depends on your home care and the health of the teeth carrying the bridge. We show you how to clean under it at the fitting. For a replacement that does not rely on the neighbouring teeth, we can discuss dental implants as an alternative.

Which bridges do you use?

Materials such as porcelain and zirconia are chosen to match your teeth and to suit the position of the gap. Where only a single tooth is damaged rather than missing, one of our dental crowns may be the answer instead.

What is the difference between bridge types?

Bridges differ in how they are supported (by the neighbouring teeth or by implants) and in how many teeth they replace. We recommend the most stable option after assessing the supporting teeth and bone.

Find out which bridge suits you

The cost and lifespan of a bridge depend on the teeth that will carry it. Dr Sodeinde assesses them at the first visit. You can see what happens at your new patient consultation and how to book.

Related restorative options

Depending on the examination, the plan may include crowns or dentures, fillings or abscess treatment on the neighbouring teeth, and cleaning and x-rays to keep the bridge healthy.

You receive a written plan and itemised quote for your bridge, which is yours to keep and use at any other practice. Arrange your assessment with the clinician to confirm which bridge suits your gap.
