Dental Implant Lifespan in London

How long an implant lasts depends on two things: how well it was placed, and how healthy the bone and gum around it stay afterwards. We use 3D imaging at your consultation to plan placement for long-term stability. Your assessment is carried out by Dr Ope Sodeinde, a specialist periodontist on the GDC Specialist Register (GDC No. 104071).

Implant longevity and timing

The two questions we hear most from patients considering dental implants in London are how long the treatment takes and whether the result is permanent. Both depend on your own bone and gum, which is why Dr Ope Sodeinde measures the bone available at the initial consultation and gives you a timeline and a realistic expectation for your case rather than a general figure.

Long-term implant protection

For implants we place, we offer a 10-year implant warranty, subject to its written conditions, which we give you before treatment. Dr Ope Sodeinde assesses your jaw and gum health to choose the approach most likely to last, including planning implants with receding gums so the foundation is stable from the start. We explain the implant procedure step by step at the consultation so you understand how each component is fitted.

Implant candidacy and timelines

The clinical assessment establishes whether you are suitable for implants and gives Dr Ope Sodeinde the bone and gum measurements to build a predictable timeline. That timeline differs between a single tooth and All-on-4 full-arch implants, and we use it to tell you how long your treatment will take and when you can expect to return to a normal diet.

Implant longevity planning

Surgical placement timeline

Dr Ope Sodeinde sets the timing at the initial assessment. In suitable cases we offer same-day dental implants to shorten the time you spend without teeth.

Integration and stability

The implant must bond with the bone before the final crown is fitted. This period of undisturbed healing is what gives the restoration its long-term stability.

Restoration and function

Once the implant is stable, the final restoration is fitted. We give you a guide to caring for implants after surgery, because the daily routine around the implant is what determines how long it lasts from here.

All implant work at our Primrose Hill practice is led by Dr Ope Sodeinde, specialist periodontist, who owns the practice and is registered as a specialist in periodontics (GDC No. 104071). Periodontics is the specialty concerned with the gum and bone that keep an implant in place.

Patient perspectives on our care

Patients who review us tend to mention an unhurried manner and options explained without pressure. Alongside Dr Ope Sodeinde, the team includes Dr Neha Patel, specialist in endodontics, Dr Kia Papagalani, specialist orthodontist, and Dr Nicky Dehbonei and Dr Lydia Dzhukha, dentists with special interests. If you have concerns about implants and gum disease, we assess them at a clinical appointment.

Questions about implant lifespan and timing

How long do dental implants last?

As long as the bone and gum around the implant stay healthy. The implant itself does not decay; what ends an implant is usually inflammation and bone loss around it. If that happens we provide treatment for failing or infected implants, and you can read more in our guide to the risks and complications.

How long after dental implants can I eat normally?

We give you an eating timeline specific to your case, because the implant needs to integrate with the bone before it takes full chewing load. Dr Ope Sodeinde sets this out at the consultation.

How long does dental implant treatment take to be done?

The surgery itself is the shortest part. Most of the time is the months the bone takes to fuse with the post. Dr Ope Sodeinde estimates this window at your initial assessment.

How long will I go without teeth when getting implants?

That depends on whether you need bone grafting and whether a provisional tooth can be fitted at placement. We map the total number of visits and the months of healing at your first appointment, so there are no surprises about the time commitment.

Your implant longevity assessment

The durability of your restoration comes down to your bone density and oral health, which Dr Ope Sodeinde examines to choose the most durable approach for your anatomy. Sedation is available if dental visits make you anxious. You can see what the £195 consultation includes and how to book it to establish your treatment timeline.

Implant longevity resources

Your timeline and the expected lifespan of your restoration depend on your clinical profile, which the consultation establishes. Related reading covers the implant procedure step by step, whether you are suitable for implants, caring for implants after surgery, the risks and complications of implants, implants with gum disease, and implants with receding gums.

The consultation ends with a written plan and an itemised quote, yours to keep and take to any other practice. It includes in-mouth x-rays and a complimentary second appointment to discuss the plan before you decide.

Local anaesthetic is standard and sedation is available. The £195 consultation fee goes towards the cost of any treatment you choose to have with us; it is not an extra on top.
