Non-Surgical Gum Treatments in Central London: Premier Periodontal Care

London's leading dental specialists offer gentle, minimally invasive gum treatments including professional scaling and root planing, advanced laser therapy, and targeted antibiotic treatments. Our standard non-surgical approaches provide London residents with comfortable, effective solutions for maintaining optimal gum health and preventing tooth loss.

Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning procedure offered by London Dental Specialists to combat gum disease and maintain oral health. This non-surgical gum treatment, performed by our expert periodontist, targets the removal of tartar and plaque below the gum line, effectively addressing periodontal disease. Our skilled dental hygienists use advanced techniques to clean tooth roots and smooth rough surfaces, reducing bacterial accumulation and promoting gum reattachment.

This essential dental hygiene procedure is a cornerstone of preventive dental care, helping to manage gingivitis and more advanced stages of periodontal disease. By thoroughly cleaning gum pockets and eliminating calculus, we aim to reduce gum inflammation and halt the progression of periodontal issues. Our state-of-the-art facility ensures precise subgingival cleaning and tooth surface debridement for optimal results.

At London Dental Specialists, we prioritise patient comfort during this vital periodontal therapy. Our team employs modern techniques to minimise discomfort while maximising the effectiveness of plaque elimination and bacterial removal. This comprehensive approach to gum disease treatment helps preserve your natural teeth and supports long-term oral health maintenance.

Antibiotic therapy at London Dental Specialists is a crucial treatment for bacterial infections in the oral cavity and surrounding areas. Our expert periodontist, endodontist, and orthodontist employ targeted antimicrobial agents to eradicate harmful bacteria and promote healing. We offer a range of antibiotic options, including oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, and antibiotic injections, tailored to each patient's specific needs.

Our highly trained specialists prioritise appropriate antibiotic use to combat infections effectively while minimising the risk of antimicrobial resistance. We carefully consider factors such as culture results, dosage, and duration of treatment to ensure optimal outcomes. Antibiotic therapy may be prescribed for various dental conditions, including skin abscesses, impetigo, and bacterial pneumonia affecting the oral region.

At London Dental Specialists, we adhere to strict protocols and guidelines set forth by the General Dental Council and Care Quality Commission to ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety. Our team stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in antibiotic therapy to provide cutting-edge treatment options for our patients.

London Dental Specialists offers cutting-edge Laser Gum Therapy, a revolutionary approach to treating periodontal disease. This advanced laser periodontal therapy provides a minimally invasive alternative to traditional gum surgery, delivering precise and effective gum disease treatment.

Our expert periodontist utilises state-of-the-art LANAP laser therapy to target and eliminate harmful bacteria whilst preserving healthy gum tissue. This laser-guided gum disease therapy promotes natural tissue regeneration and reduces gum pocket depth, offering a comfortable and efficient solution for managing periodontal disease.

Laser Gum Therapy at London Dental Specialists combines the benefits of non-surgical periodontal therapy with the precision of laser dentistry. The procedure is less invasive than traditional methods, resulting in faster healing times and reduced discomfort for patients.

Our advanced periodontal care includes comprehensive gum treatment options, from deep gum cleaning to aesthetic gum procedures such as gum contouring and gum whitening. We tailor each treatment plan to address individual patient needs, ensuring optimal results in gum infection treatment and overall periodontal health.

With Laser Gum Therapy, patients can expect improved outcomes in gum pocket reduction, gum tissue regeneration, and long-term periodontal disease management. This innovative approach reflects our commitment to providing the most advanced and effective treatments in modern dentistry.

Gum irrigation, a vital dental hygiene procedure offered by London Dental Specialists, effectively cleanses the spaces between teeth and gums. This advanced periodontal treatment uses a targeted stream of water to flush out harmful bacteria and debris, promoting optimal gum health and preventing gum disease. Dental irrigation, also known as oral irrigation or pocket irrigation, is a powerful tool in the fight against plaque and gingivitis. Our expert periodontist employs state-of-the-art water irrigation techniques to ensure thorough subgingival cleaning, reaching areas that traditional brushing and flossing might miss. This non-invasive method of interdental cleaning is particularly beneficial for patients with braces, implants, or bridges, as it helps maintain impeccable oral hygiene. Regular gum irrigation sessions at our London clinic can significantly improve periodontal health, reduce inflammation, and freshen breath. As part of a comprehensive dental care routine, this treatment complements other services like scaling and root planing, enhancing overall oral health outcomes. Our dedicated team of specialists is committed to providing top-tier gum disease prevention strategies, ensuring your smile remains healthy and vibrant for years to come.

Desensitisation Treatment at London Dental Specialists offers relief for patients with tooth sensitivity, utilising proven techniques to reduce discomfort and improve oral health. This advanced therapy, similar to systematic desensitisation therapy, targets hypersensitive nerves in teeth and gums, gradually reducing their response to stimuli.

Our expert periodontist employs cutting-edge methods akin to allergen-specific immunotherapy, carefully exposing sensitive areas to controlled stimuli. This process, reminiscent of exposure therapy, helps patients build tolerance to temperature changes and acidic foods.

The treatment often incorporates elements of cognitive behavioural therapy, addressing anxiety associated with dental discomfort. Our specialists may also recommend relaxation techniques to complement the physical desensitisation process.

For complex cases, we may integrate approaches similar to EMDR therapy or nerve desensitisation exercises, tailoring the treatment to each patient's unique needs. This comprehensive approach ensures optimal results, whether addressing localised sensitivity or more widespread issues.

London Dental Specialists' desensitisation treatment stands out from standard care, offering a sophisticated solution akin to treatments for complex regional pain syndrome. Our periodontist's expertise ensures a thorough, effective approach to managing dental sensitivity, improving patients' quality of life and oral health.

Trust London Dental Specialists for advanced surgical procedures including gum grafting, crown lengthening, and precise pocket reduction surgery. Our Specialist Periodontist and Endodontist, registered with the General Dental Council (GDC), deliver exceptional surgical care using the latest techniques available in the UK's premier dental district.

Gum grafting, a specialised periodontal treatment offered by London Dental Specialists, addresses gum recession and restores oral health. This advanced dental surgery, performed by our expert periodontist, involves transplanting healthy gum tissue to areas affected by recession. The procedure not only enhances your smile but also protects exposed roots, reducing tooth sensitivity and improving overall gum health.

Our skilled oral surgeon utilizes state-of-the-art techniques, including connective tissue grafts and gingival grafts, to ensure optimal results. This root coverage procedure is essential for patients experiencing gum line irregularities or those seeking cosmetic dentistry improvements. By correcting the gum line, we can dramatically enhance your smile whilst simultaneously addressing potential oral health concerns.

At London Dental Specialists, we understand the importance of comprehensive care. Our gum grafting treatment often complements other dental restoration procedures, such as dental implants or cosmetic dentistry services. This holistic approach ensures that your entire oral health is considered, leading to long-lasting results and improved functionality.

Our periodontist's expertise in gum tissue transplants and periodontal treatments ensures that you receive the highest standard of care. We employ advanced imaging techniques and follow strict clinical protocols to plan and execute each gum grafting procedure with precision. This commitment to excellence has established London Dental Specialists as a leading provider of periodontal treatments in the UK.

Pocket Reduction Surgery, also known as Osseous Surgery, is a vital Gum Disease Treatment offered by London Dental Specialists' expert periodontist. This advanced Dental Procedure targets Periodontal Disease by addressing deep Gum Pockets that harbour harmful bacteria. The skilled periodontist carefully folds back the Gum Tissue, thoroughly removes Tartar and infected tissue, and smooths the damaged bone to eliminate hiding places for bacteria. This precise Oral Surgery not only promotes Gum Health but also helps prevent further Bone Loss and aids in Tooth Preservation. Following the procedure, patients can expect improved Periodontal Health and reduced Gum Inflammation. While Scaling and Root Planing is often a first-line treatment, Pocket Reduction Surgery may be necessary for more severe cases of Periodontal Pockets. London Dental Specialists' state-of-the-art facility ensures the highest standards of care, adhering to strict infection control protocols and utilising advanced imaging for precise treatment planning. This essential procedure is a cornerstone of comprehensive Periodontal Disease management, offering patients a path to restored oral health and confidence.

Crown lengthening is a precise dental surgery performed by our expert periodontist at London Dental Specialists. This procedure involves carefully removing gum tissue and, in some cases, bone to expose more of the tooth structure. Our skilled specialist uses local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort during the treatment.

Crown lengthening is often necessary for successful crown restoration, improving the gum-to-tooth relationship for both functional and aesthetic reasons. It's particularly useful when tooth decay extends below the gum line or when there's insufficient tooth structure for a proper dental crown fitting.

During the procedure, our periodontist creates a gum flap to access the underlying bone and root surfaces. After reshaping, sutures are placed, and a protective bandage may be applied. The healing time varies, but most patients can resume normal activities within a few days.

This treatment is vital in cosmetic dentistry, especially for correcting a 'gummy smile'. It also plays a crucial role in functional crown lengthening, ensuring long-lasting dental restorations. Our clinic uses advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to achieve optimal results.

Post-procedure, we provide detailed oral hygiene instructions to promote healing and maintain your new smile. For anxious patients, we offer sedation options to ensure a comfortable experience. Trust London Dental Specialists for expert crown lengthening that enhances both your oral health and smile aesthetics.

Gingivectomy, a surgical procedure performed by London Dental Specialists' expert periodontist, involves the precise removal of excess gum tissue to treat gum disease and improve oral health. This periodontal surgery effectively reshapes the gum line, addressing issues such as gummy smiles and deep gum pockets. Our skilled dental team utilises advanced techniques to ensure optimal results, enhancing both the aesthetics and function of your smile.

The procedure begins with a thorough examination and local anaesthesia for your comfort. Our periodontist then carefully excises the targeted gum tissue, contouring the gum line to achieve a more balanced and pleasing appearance. This gum contouring not only improves the look of your smile but also helps reduce the risk of future gum infections by eliminating deep pockets where bacteria can thrive.

Gingivectomy is particularly effective for patients with chronic gum disease, offering a way to halt the progression of periodontal issues and promote long-term gum health. It can also be an integral part of cosmetic dentistry, correcting gummy smiles and creating a more harmonious gum-to-tooth ratio.

At London Dental Specialists, we combine our expertise in periodontal health with state-of-the-art technology to deliver exceptional results. Our commitment to patient care ensures that you receive personalised treatment tailored to your specific needs, whether for health reasons or aesthetic enhancement.

Following the procedure, we provide comprehensive aftercare instructions to support your recovery and maintain the results of your gingivectomy. Regular follow-up appointments allow us to monitor your progress and ensure optimal healing of the gum tissue.

Gum reshaping, also known as gum contouring or gum sculpting, is a precise cosmetic dentistry procedure offered by London Dental Specialists to enhance your smile's aesthetics. This advanced treatment uses dental lasers to carefully remove excess gum tissue, creating a more balanced and appealing gum line. Our expert periodontist employs laser dentistry techniques to ensure minimal discomfort and faster healing compared to traditional methods.

The gum lift procedure is particularly effective for patients with a 'gummy smile', where excessive gum tissue covers too much of the tooth surface. By sculpting the gum line, we can reveal more of your natural teeth, dramatically improving your smile's appearance. This tissue sculpting process also addresses uneven gum lines, creating a more harmonious and attractive dental aesthetic.

Beyond cosmetic benefits, gum reshaping can also contribute to improved oral health. By reducing excess gum tissue, we can sometimes make it easier to clean between teeth and along the gum line, potentially lowering the risk of gum disease. Our periodontist will thoroughly assess your individual needs to determine if gum reshaping is the right solution for your smile enhancement goals.

At London Dental Specialists, we combine cutting-edge technology with expert periodontal care to deliver outstanding results. Our gum reshaping treatments are tailored to each patient's unique smile, ensuring natural-looking outcomes that complement your overall facial aesthetics. We pride ourselves on offering this sophisticated dental procedure as part of our comprehensive range of cosmetic and periodontal services.

Our London practice combines Harley Street expertise with cutting-edge technology to deliver outstanding results for complex periodontal cases.

Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) is a cutting-edge periodontal surgical procedure offered by London Dental Specialists to combat the effects of periodontal disease and promote bone and gum tissue regeneration. This advanced technique employs barrier membranes to encourage the growth of new periodontal ligament, cementum, and alveolar bone, effectively restoring tooth support and enhancing overall periodontal health.

Our expert periodontist utilises state-of-the-art GTR systems to address alveolar bone defects and stimulate the reconstruction of vital oral structures. This innovative approach to periodontal regenerative therapy not only targets existing damage but also helps prevent further deterioration of the supporting tissues around your teeth.

GTR is often combined with bone grafting procedures to maximise the potential for successful tissue regeneration. By creating an optimal environment for healing, this treatment can significantly improve the outcomes of dental implant procedures and other complex oral surgeries.

At London Dental Specialists, we pride ourselves on offering the most advanced and effective periodontal treatments available. Our commitment to excellence in oral surgery and implant dentistry ensures that you receive the highest standard of care throughout your GTR procedure and recovery.

London Dental Specialists offers the innovative Pinhole Surgical Technique, a minimally invasive procedure for gum recession treatment. This cutting-edge gum rejuvenation method, also known as the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, provides a non-surgical alternative to traditional gum grafting. Our expert periodontist uses this advanced approach for gum tissue restoration, effectively reversing receding gums without incisions or sutures.

The Pinhole Surgical Technique is a revolutionary solution for periodontal treatment, offering remarkable results in soft tissue regeneration. This procedure enhances both oral health and aesthetic gum correction, addressing concerns such as exposed tooth roots and gum line remodelling. Our skilled specialist utilises precision instruments to gently reposition existing gum tissue, promoting natural healing and improved gum health.

Patients seeking a gum grafting alternative will find the Pinhole Surgical Technique an excellent choice for dental health improvement. This restorative dentistry procedure offers faster recovery times and less discomfort compared to traditional methods. Our clinic's commitment to periodontal aesthetics ensures that your smile not only feels healthier but looks more attractive as well.

London Dental Specialists offers expert bone grafting, a vital dental procedure for enhancing jaw bone density and thickness. This advanced oral surgery technique, performed by our skilled periodontist, involves transplanting bone tissue to areas of insufficient bone volume. Bone grafting is often essential for successful dental implant placement, ensuring a solid foundation for these artificial tooth roots.

Our clinic utilises cutting-edge grafting materials to stimulate bone regeneration and promote optimal healing. This dental treatment is crucial for patients with inadequate jawbone structure due to tooth loss, gum disease, or facial trauma. The bone augmentation process not only supports dental implants but also improves overall oral health and facial aesthetics.

During the procedure, our specialist carefully places the grafting material, encouraging natural bone growth over time. This meticulous approach to dental reconstruction ensures long-lasting results and improved bone tissue quality. Patients benefit from enhanced dental health and the ability to pursue various restorative options, including implants and bridges.

At London Dental Specialists, we employ state-of-the-art 3D imaging technology to precisely plan and execute bone grafting procedures. This advanced dental surgery technique allows for targeted bone growth in specific areas, tailored to each patient's unique needs. Our commitment to excellence in oral health extends to providing comprehensive care throughout the bone healing process.

Sinus lift surgery is a crucial dental procedure offered by London Dental Specialists, expertly performed to enhance bone volume in the upper jaw for successful dental implant placement. This advanced oral surgery technique involves carefully elevating the maxillary sinus membrane to create space for bone grafting, ensuring optimal support for dental implants in patients with insufficient jawbone density. Our skilled periodontist and oral surgeon employ state-of-the-art 3D imaging and precision surgical techniques to meticulously plan and execute each sinus lift procedure, tailoring the treatment to each patient's unique anatomy and restorative needs.

The sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation or sinus floor elevation, is a vital step in dental reconstruction for many patients seeking tooth replacement solutions in the posterior upper jaw. By increasing bone height and volume through bone grafting, this procedure paves the way for secure dental implant integration and long-term restoration success. Our experienced team utilises cutting-edge bone augmentation materials and surgical protocols to promote optimal bone integration and healing, ensuring a robust foundation for your future dental implants.

At London Dental Specialists, we prioritise patient comfort and safety throughout the sinus lift process, offering advanced sedation options and employing minimally invasive techniques when possible. Our comprehensive approach to oral health and dental care ensures that sinus lift surgery is seamlessly integrated into your overall treatment plan, whether you require single or multiple tooth implants, full arch rehabilitation, or complex maxillofacial reconstruction.

Ridge augmentation is a vital periodontal procedure offered by London Dental Specialists to restore the natural contour of your gums and jaw. This advanced oral surgery technique, often performed after tooth extraction, involves bone grafting to rebuild the alveolar ridge, ensuring optimal support for dental implants or prostheses. Our expert periodontist employs cutting-edge hard tissue augmentation methods, including vertical and horizontal ridge augmentation, to address bone loss and gum recession.

The procedure begins with a thorough assessment of your jaw's structure using state-of-the-art 3D imaging. Our specialist then carefully places a dental bone graft to stimulate bone regeneration, enhancing both the width and height of the alveolar ridge. This meticulous process not only improves the aesthetics of your gum contour but also creates a solid foundation for successful implant dentistry.

Ridge augmentation is crucial for patients considering dental implants, as it ensures proper osseointegration and long-term stability of the implant. Our clinic's approach to socket preservation immediately following tooth extraction can often minimise the need for more extensive ridge augmentation later. For complex cases, we may recommend combining ridge augmentation with other procedures such as sinus lift surgery to maximise bone volume.

At London Dental Specialists, we pride ourselves on our comprehensive approach to jaw reconstruction. Our team's expertise in alveoloplasty and advanced bone grafting techniques allows us to tackle even the most challenging cases of bone loss. We utilise only the highest quality materials and follow strict protocols to ensure optimal outcomes and patient safety.

Our 5 Star Reviews related to Periodontics

Great practise. Little pain. Ope is very patient friendly and recommends appropriate treatment.

My latest treatment at London Dental has been an extraction with implant insertion and gum graft followed by 2 root canal treatments and three new crowns. This process has taken nearly 5 months and has included 4 treatments under local anaesthetic, including long sessions firstly for the extraction with gum graft and then for the root canals. I found the anaesthetics for all of these sessions very effective, and the skill and the attention of all the staff meant that I experienced very little discomfort. The most uncomfortable part of the process was the healing of the gum graft at both the donor site and the sutures and this discomfort lasted for several weeks after the initial treatment. Ope explained to me that a gum graft is not always standard but that he has found it a worthwhile and effective process in some cases. Now that it has healed up I completely agree - I think that my result is both cosmetically and functionally excellent in part due to the graft. I am now pain free and comfortable for the first time in many years. Over this long treatment period I was able to contact the team easily when I had concerns, and these were rapidly addressed. I was always consulted and informed about my treatment so that it could be tailored to my requirements. In summary Ope, Neha and team are as good at communication and reassurance as they are at dentistry and I would highly recommend them for complex dental treatment.

I had a fantastic experience with Dr Ope & the staff at the clinic for the removal of a 10 yr + old root canal. I booked an appt. at the clinic as I was concerned - the crown looked fine on the surface, but suspected was causing sinus infections and a nasal blockage only on one side (the root canal side). In the consultation, we discussed my symptoms and Dr Ope took x-rays and did a physical examination. I was booked in and the treatment was carried out quickly and painlessly. The aftercare was great and I was given all that I needed to recover and for my gums to heal completely. My sinus infections/blockage cleared up almost immediately - plus the acne on my cheek on the same side of the infected tooth cleared up too - and I couldn't be happier. Thanks Dr Ope for your care, expertise and wisdom! I had 5 star service at the London Dental Specialists and wouldn't hesitate to recommend my family members and friends.

Our Process for Periodontics Treaments

At London Dental Specialists, our periodontics process is designed to provide comprehensive care for your gum health. Our approach involves six key steps: initial consultation and assessment, diagnostic imaging, treatment planning, non-surgical or surgical interventions, post-treatment care, and ongoing maintenance. We utilise advanced technology and techniques to ensure optimal results, whether you require gum disease management, cosmetic procedures, or advanced periodontal treatments. We aim to restore and maintain your gum health while ensuring your comfort.
Step 1
Initial Consultation and Assessment
At London Dental Specialists, we begin with a thorough consultation and assessment. Our expert periodontist examines your gums, measures pocket depths, and reviews your medical history. We use advanced imaging for precise diagnosis. This step helps us create a tailored treatment plan to address your specific periodontal needs and concerns.
Step 2
Diagnostic Imaging
Our advanced diagnostic imaging techniques provide a comprehensive view of your periodontal health. Using high-resolution 3D scans and digital X-rays, we accurately assess gum pocket depth, bone loss, and tissue condition. This detailed imaging allows for precise treatment planning and helps us tailor our approach to your needs.
Step 3
Treatment Planning
Treatment Planning: Our periodontists assess your case thoroughly using advanced imaging and diagnostics. We develop a tailored treatment plan, discussing options, expected outcomes, and costs. This step ensures you understand and agree with the proposed periodontal care before proceeding.
Step 4
Non-surgical or surgical interventions
Non-surgical interventions include scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar. Surgical options like pocket reduction or gum grafts may be necessary for advanced cases. Our specialists use advanced techniques and technology to restore gum health effectively.
Step 5
Post-treatment care: Healing guidance and follow-up.
We provide detailed instructions for optimal healing. Regular check-ups ensure your gums recover properly. Our team monitors progress, adjusts care as needed, and offers support to maintain your improved periodontal health long-term.
Step 6
Ongoing Maintenance
Regular check-ups and professional cleanings are crucial for maintaining gum health. We provide ongoing care, monitor for signs of recurrence, and offer personalised oral hygiene advice. Our team ensures your periodontal health remains stable long-term, preventing future gum issues and preserving your smile.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a 3D imaging technique that provides high-resolution images of oral structures. Digital Intraoral Scanners for Periodontics

Digital intraoral scanners are handheld devices that capture detailed 3D images of a patient's oral cavity. In periodontics, these scanners create precise digital impressions of teeth and gums, aiding in diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring periodontal conditions. They offer improved accuracy and patient comfort compared to traditional impression methods.

Dental Lasers for Periodontics

Dental lasers are advanced tools used in periodontics to treat gum disease and perform soft tissue procedures. These devices emit focused light beams to precisely remove infected gum tissue, reduce bacteria, and promote healing. Lasers can also aid in scaling and root planing, offering less invasive treatment options with reduced bleeding, swelling, and post-operative discomfort for patients.

Periodontics: Frequently Asked Questions

Considering Periodontics? We understand you may have questions. Our team of dental specialists, including a Periodontist, Endodontist, Prosthodontist and Orthodontist along with our team of Dental Therapists and Nurses are here to guide you through the process.
What distinguishes a gum specialist from a general dentist?
A gum specialist, or periodontist, differs from a general dentist in their focus and expertise. After dental school, periodontists undergo additional years of specialised training, concentrating on gum health and diseases. Dr Ope Sodeinde is an expert in diagnosing, treating, and preventing periodontal disease.

While general dentists offer preventive care and gum treatments, periodontists handle complex cases. They perform advanced procedures like gum grafts, pocket reduction surgery, and dental implants. Periodontists also use specialised tools and techniques, such as laser therapy and regenerative procedures.

At London Dental Specialists, our periodontists offer comprehensive gum care, from non-surgical treatments to advanced surgical interventions. We focus on preserving natural teeth, restoring gum health, and enhancing smiles through expert periodontal care.
What treatments does a periodontist offer for gum disease?
A periodontist offers several treatments for gum disease:

1. Scaling and root planing: Deep cleaning to remove plaque and tartar.
2. Antibiotic therapy: Targeted medication to fight infection.
3. Laser gum therapy: Non-invasive treatment for diseased tissue.
4. Pocket reduction surgery: Minimises spaces where bacteria grow.
5. Gum grafting: Covers exposed roots and restores gum line.
6. Guided tissue regeneration: Stimulates bone and tissue regrowth.
7. Periodontal maintenance: Ongoing care to prevent disease recurrence.

At London Dental Specialists, Dr Ope Sodeinde, a registered Specialist in Periodontics, provides tailored treatments using advanced techniques like LANAP and 3D imaging for optimal results.
How often should I see a periodontist for maintenance after gum disease treatment?
After gum disease treatment, you should see a periodontist every 3-4 months for maintenance visits. These checkups are crucial to monitor your gum health and prevent disease recurrence. At London Dental Specialists, our expert periodontists tailor maintenance plans to your specific needs. We perform thorough cleanings, assess gum pocket depths, and address any early signs of inflammation. Regular visits help maintain the results of your treatment and catch potential issues early. Remember, consistency is critical in managing gum health in the long term. If you notice any changes between appointments, please contact us sooner.
What are the long-term benefits of periodontal treatment?
Periodontal treatment offers significant long-term benefits for oral health. It effectively halts gum disease progression, preventing tooth loss and preserving bone structure. Treated patients experience reduced inflammation, bleeding, and bad breath. Proper gum health also supports overall well-being, as periodontal disease has been linked to systemic conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Regular maintenance after treatment ensures lasting results, promoting a healthier smile and improved quality of life. At London Dental Specialists, our expert periodontists use advanced techniques like laser therapy and guided tissue regeneration to maximise these long-term benefits, tailoring treatments to each patient's unique needs.
How can I prevent periodontal disease from recurring after treatment?
To prevent periodontal disease from recurring after treatment:

1. Maintain excellent oral hygiene: Brush twice daily and floss regularly.
2. Use an antiseptic mouthwash to reduce bacteria.
3. Attend regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings.
4. Follow a healthy diet rich in vitamins C and D.
5. Quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption.
6. Manage stress levels, as stress can weaken your immune system.
7. Control underlying health conditions like diabetes.
8. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and consider an electric toothbrush.
9. Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months.
10. Follow your periodontist's personalised maintenance plan.

At London Dental Specialists, we offer comprehensive periodontal maintenance programs tailored to your specific needs, ensuring long-term gum health and preventing disease recurrence.
How can a periodontist help manage systemic health conditions related to gum disease?
As periodontists, we are crucial in managing systemic health conditions linked to gum disease. We reduce gum inflammation and bacterial load through specialised treatments like scaling, root planing, and laser therapy, which can positively impact conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory problems. I work closely with your primary care physician to provide comprehensive care that addresses your oral and overall health. By effectively managing your gum disease, we improve your oral health and may contribute to better management of related systemic conditions, potentially reducing complications and enhancing your overall well-being.
What are the potential risks and complications associated with periodontal surgery, and how can they be minimised?
Potential risks of periodontal surgery include infection, bleeding, and temporary discomfort. Complications may involve gum recession, tooth sensitivity, or changes in appearance. To minimise risks:

1. Choose an experienced periodontist at London Dental Specialists
2. Follow pre-operative instructions carefully
3. Maintain good oral hygiene before and after surgery
4. Attend all follow-up appointments
5. Adhere to post-operative care guidelines

London Dental Specialists uses advanced techniques and technology to reduce complications. Their periodontists carefully assess each patient's condition and tailor treatment plans to minimise risks. They also provide comprehensive aftercare instructions and support to ensure optimal healing and results.
How does a periodontist approach the treatment of peri-implantitis, and what are the success rates for saving affected dental implants?
Periodontists at London Dental Specialists approach peri-implantitis treatment with a multi-step process. First, they thoroughly clean the implant surface using specialised instruments and antibiotics. Next, they may perform regenerative procedures to restore lost bone and soft tissue. Surgical interventions like implant surface decontamination or guided bone regeneration may be necessary in severe cases.

According to the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, success rates for saving affected implants vary from 60-80%. Factors influencing success include early diagnosis, extent of bone loss, patient compliance, and overall health. At London Dental Specialists, our experienced periodontists use advanced techniques and technology to maximise treatment outcomes and implant survival rates.
