Types of Orthodontic Treatment in London

Braces and aligners are the two main ways to correct tooth position. Which system fits your case and your lifestyle is settled at an assessment with Dr Kia Papagalani, specialist orthodontist (GDC No. 228487).

  • GDC-registered specialist orthodontist
  • £195 consultation with a written plan

The four groups of treatment we offer

We plan every case from a 3D scan of your teeth, so the recommendation is based on your own anatomy rather than a general rule.

Clear aligners

For a discreet option, the Invisalign Full range covers most aligner cases. Aligners are removable, which makes cleaning easier than with fixed braces. We also provide 3M Clarity Aligners and Simpli5.

Fixed braces

Some movements need the control of a fixed appliance. We fit fixed metal braces or, as a less visible alternative, clear ceramic braces. Treatment length depends on the complexity of the case.

Retention

Once active treatment ends, holding the result is the priority. We fit orthodontic retainers, fixed or removable, with a 12-month warranty, and explain how to look after them.

Planning and fees

Cost and timeline are set after your consultation, once we have assessed the complexity of your case. The £195 consultation fee goes towards treatment.

Questions patients ask when choosing

What are fixed braces?

Fixed braces are brackets bonded to the teeth and joined by a wire that moves them over time. They come in metal and tooth-coloured ceramic versions. Your treatment is led by Dr Kia Papagalani, specialist orthodontist. Where gum health needs attention before or during treatment, we work with Dr Ope Sodeinde, GDC-registered specialist periodontist (GDC No. 104071), who leads the practice.

What types of teeth straightening are there?

Fixed braces (metal, ceramic or lingual, fitted behind the teeth) and removable clear aligners. Each handles different degrees of crowding, spacing and bite correction. Fees for each are set out on our orthodontics costs in London page.

Which teeth straightening option is right for me?

It depends on what the examination shows and on how you live. Some patients want the discretion of aligners; some movements need the control of fixed braces. Adults with a history of gum disease are assessed jointly with Dr Ope Sodeinde before any appliance is fitted.

How do I choose between the options?

We compare the expected result, treatment time and visibility of each system for your case and explain the trade-offs. If bone or gum support is a factor in the choice, Dr Ope Sodeinde gives a periodontal opinion.

How much do the different options cost?

Fees vary with the complexity of your case and the system used. You get an itemised quote after your assessment, and payment plans can spread the cost. Any periodontal treatment needed alongside is quoted separately by Dr Ope Sodeinde.

What happens at a teeth straightening assessment?

We examine your teeth and bite, identify the cause of the misalignment, and discuss the options that fit your goals. Dr Papagalani carries out the assessment; if your gums need checking first, we book that with Dr Ope Sodeinde.

Am I too old for braces?

No. Adults can have orthodontic treatment at any age as long as the gums and bone are healthy, which we check at the first visit.

Can I combine braces with other cosmetic work?

Yes. Straightening is often the first step before other work, such as refining the edges of teeth once they are aligned.

Will braces be too visible?

Clear aligners and ceramic brackets are far less noticeable than metal, and lingual braces sit behind the teeth. We help you choose the least visible option that can still achieve the movement you need.
