Maintain your result for the long term
How long your aftercare runs depends on your case. Dr Kia Papagalani, specialist orthodontist (GDC No. 228487), sets the plan at your consultation.
This orthodontic aftercare guide covers what to do after braces or aligners so the result holds and your teeth and gums stay healthy.

Teeth keep trying to return to their old positions for years after treatment, and plaque collects more easily around appliances. Aftercare deals with both. It applies to every course in our orthodontics in London, from Invisalign Full, Lite and Express to Invisalign Teen, Invisalign First and fixed braces.
Leave your number and we will call you back. Nothing is booked until you say so.
Anyone finishing or who has finished orthodontic treatment, including patients who had self-ligating braces or Invisalign Express, and patients treated elsewhere who want their result checked. The specialist orthodontist sets the right aftercare path at your consultation.
Once active treatment ends we fit orthodontic retainers. Without them, teeth drift back. We explain the wear schedule; fixed and removable retainers carry a 12-month warranty.
Brush and floss around retainers or appliances as we show you, and clean removable retainers daily to prevent plaque build-up and gum inflammation.
If a retainer feels loose, tight or uncomfortable, or breaks, contact us promptly. A quick adjustment or replacement stops the teeth moving.
Aftercare changes as you do. For younger patients we may discuss Invisalign Teen if further refinement is needed later.
Planning is done with 3D imaging, so retainers are made to the final positions of your teeth. Your care is led by Dr Papagalani, specialist orthodontist. The same aftercare applies to every course we provide, including the Invisalign range and fixed braces.
Retention is quoted with your treatment. Fees are set out on our orthodontics costs in London page and itemised at your assessment.
Retainer wear is long term; the schedule is set for your case at the consultation.
A new retainer can feel tight for a few days. Persistent discomfort means the fit needs checking, so tell us.
As long as you wear your retainers as instructed. We explain what that involves at your assessment.
The specialist orthodontist sets the right retention strategy for you at a clinical visit. Learn what happens at your orthodontic consultation and how to book. Our orthodontics hub covers the treatment options themselves.
