Dentures in London

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth, made to fit your gums and to match the teeth you still have. A partial denture replaces some teeth; a full denture replaces all of them.

How long a denture lasts depends on the material and on how the gums and bone change over time. The clinical assessment decides which type suits you.

Led by Dr Ope Sodeinde.

Restoring the ability to eat and speak

Missing several teeth makes chewing harder, changes how you speak and lets the remaining teeth drift. An old denture that has become loose is no better, because the gums and bone shrink beneath it over the years. Dentures are part of the general and family dentistry in London we provide to restore a working bite.

We take a medical history and use x-rays where they are needed to check the remaining teeth and the bone, keeping radiation exposure to a minimum. Dr Sodeinde and the team use that record to plan the denture.

Planning your denture

A denture that does not match the shape of the jaw rubs, slips and wears unevenly. We plan each denture from dental x-rays and impressions of your mouth, and you receive an itemised quote before you commit.

If your jaw joints are painful or clicking, we assess whether our TMJ and jaw pain treatment should come first so the new teeth meet comfortably.

Who is suitable for dentures

Patients missing several teeth or all of them, and patients whose existing denture no longer fits. Many come to us after a long time away from the dentist, and we plan from the mouth as it is now. Depending on the examination, we may first place dental fillings to stabilise the remaining teeth, and where your history suggests night-time breathing problems we can discuss sleep apnoea devices. Your consultation with Dr Sodeinde confirms which type of denture suits your anatomy.

How dentures are made

Clinical assessment

We examine your gums and remaining teeth and discuss what you want from the denture. If other teeth are damaged, we may recommend dental crowns so they can support a partial denture.

Impressions

We take impressions of the jaw so the denture follows its exact contours, which is what stops it slipping. Where the gums need treatment first, we can use laser dentistry.

Design and try-in

The teeth are chosen to match the shade and shape of your natural teeth and set up on a trial denture, which we check in your mouth for appearance and bite before it is finished.

Fitting

We fit the finished denture, adjust the bite so the pressure is even across the gums, and check your speech.

Review

After you have worn the denture for a short time we relieve any pressure points and show you how to clean it.

Clinical standards

Our clinical lead is Dr Ope Sodeinde, GDC-registered specialist periodontist (GDC No. 104071). A partial denture relies on the remaining teeth and gums, so their health is assessed by a periodontist before the denture is planned. Regular dental examinations, professional teeth cleaning and x-rays keep the supporting teeth sound.

Patient experiences with tooth replacement

Patients tell us they value an unhurried manner and honest options with no pressure to decide on the day. If a tooth is infected, we carry out dental abscess treatment before fitting the denture.

Common questions about dentures

How much do dentures cost?

The fee depends on the type of denture, the material and the number of teeth replaced. We confirm it at your clinical assessment.

How much does a full set cost?

A full set is priced by its design and material. You receive a clear cost breakdown at the consultation.

What affects the price of private dentures?

The complexity of the case and the materials chosen. We give you a written quote at our Primrose Hill practice after the examination.

What are the alternatives to dentures?

Where the neighbouring teeth are strong, one of our dental bridges may replace a small gap. For a fixed replacement that does not rely on other teeth, we can discuss dental implants as an alternative. Dr Sodeinde and the team explain the options and their costs at your visit.
