Specialist Sinus Lift in London

A sinus lift adds bone height to the upper back jaw, where the floor of the sinus often sits too close to the gum for an implant to be placed. The sinus membrane is lifted and bone graft material is placed beneath it. We assess your suitability and the timeline at your initial consultation.

Dr Ope Sodeinde, GDC-registered specialist periodontist, leads the clinical care for this procedure at our Primrose Hill practice.

Managing gum disease and bone loss for sinus lift

Bone in the upper back jaw is lost when molars are removed and when periodontal disease has thinned it, and the sinus expands into the space. Our periodontics in London treats any active disease first, with gingivitis treatment, scaling and root planing to remove tartar below the gum line, or laser gum therapy to target bacteria, so that the graft is placed into healthy tissue. Dr Ope Sodeinde diagnoses before anything is planned.

Why choose a specialist for your lift

Patients often worry about cost, or about being sold treatment they do not need. We work diagnosis first: a consultation establishes what your case requires, and fees are set out before anything begins.

A periodontist works with the supporting structures of the teeth every day, which is the skill a sinus lift depends on. Depending on your case, the lift may be combined with bone grafting, ridge augmentation, the pinhole surgical technique or soft tissue grafts. Dr Ope Sodeinde plans the sequence so the bone is ready for the restoration to follow.

Sinus lift: who can benefit from this procedure

Patients who want an implant in the upper back jaw but do not have enough bone height beneath the sinus. At your assessment we examine your bone volume and sinus health, usually on a 3D scan, to confirm the method suits your anatomy.

Treating gum disease early also keeps remaining teeth and slows further bone loss; if you are unsure which of the gum disease treatments: which one fits, we clarify it at your visit. If dental work makes you anxious, tell us.

Your sinus lift process

Bone volume assessment for sinus lift

We examine your jaw to establish whether there is enough bone for an implant or whether a lift is needed, and plan exactly where the graft goes.

Sinus lift: surgical bone grafting

Under local anaesthetic, the specialist makes a small opening in the bone, gently lifts the sinus membrane and places graft material beneath it to build the height needed. Some patients also benefit from guided tissue regeneration to support the area.

Graft integration

Over the following months the graft fuses with your own bone. We monitor the site until it is strong enough to hold a permanent restoration.

Post-surgical review for sinus lift

We check that the bone has integrated and the volume is sufficient, then discuss the next step for your restoration.

Sinus lift: long-term bone maintenance

A maintenance programme protects the site from infection and keeps the new bone stable.

Clinical expertise in gum health for sinus lift

The procedure is led by Dr Ope Sodeinde, specialist periodontist (GDC No. 104071), who examines your gums and reviews your medical history to plan your care. Subgingival cleaning and root debridement clear infection before surgery.

The practice also provides laser gum therapy, scaling and root planing, gingivitis treatment, gum abscess drainage, crown lengthening and gum irrigation. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to check healing.

Our approach to complex cases

Bone grafting is daunting, and many patients arrive at our Primrose Hill practice anxious. Consultations are calm and unhurried, with honest options and no pressure before any treatment begins.

In summary Ope, Neha and team are as good at communication and reassurance as they are at dentistry and I would highly recommend them for complex dental treatment.

Sinus lift: common concerns

How much does a sinus lift cost?

We set the cost at your clinical assessment, once we have seen your anatomy and the amount of bone needed.

How long does a sinus lift take?

The surgery itself is a single appointment; the healing interval before an implant is measured in months. We explain both at your initial consultation.

Is a sinus lift painful?

It is carried out under local anaesthetic.

How long does a sinus lift last?

The graft becomes your own bone. Keeping it depends on your oral health, and a maintenance programme protects it from disease.

How we prepare the upper jaw for implants

Suitability and timeline are settled at your clinical examination, where Dr Ope Sodeinde assesses your bone. You can learn what happens at your first periodontal consultation and how to book to start.

Further periodontal support for sinus lift

Depending on your case, we may suggest bone grafting or ridge augmentation to build the foundation, and the pinhole surgical technique or soft tissue grafts where the gum needs restoring.
