- Graduated from Angle School of Orthodontia in 1905
- Worked with George Northcroft for 2 years
- Established his own orthodontic practice in 1921

- President of the British Dental Association in 1934
- President of the Royal Society of Medicine, Odontological Section in 1943
- President of the European Orthodontic Society in 1938
- Secretary (1910–1925), President (1925–1952), and Honorary Treasurer (1942–1952) of the British Society for the Study of Orthodontics
- Faculty member at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry for 40 years

Contributions to Orthodontics
- First person in England to solely practice orthodontics
- Organised the first postgraduate course on orthodontics in England
- Awarded Faculty of Dental Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1947
- Played a significant role in the development of orthodontics in Europe
- Made important contributions to the understanding of etiology in orthodontic cases
