- Jean Delaire was born in Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard on 20 June 1923.
- He received his medical degree from the University of Nantes in 1953.
- In 1957, he became a specialist in Stomatology.
- In 1959, he became the chief of staff of the Department of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Nantes.
- He specialised in plastic surgery in 1972 and oral-maxillofacial surgery in 1978.

- He developed the protraction facemask in the 1970s for children with mandibular prognathism.
