- Born in Leipzig in 1908
- Received dental degree in Leipzig in 1930
- Started working on Orthodontic patients in 1928
- Worked in a private practice in Zwickau until 1942
- Became head of HeinrichBraun Regional Hospital in Zwickau in 1961

Functional Activator Appliance
- Dr. Fränkel used the activator functional appliance in his practice
- Developed an approach to correct functional deviations of muscles along with dentition
- Developed functional regulator appliances to train and reprogram the musculature around the mouth
- Published around 70 articles on the importance of his appliance in expanding dental arches
- Introduced his functional orthopedic approach in 1966 at a meeting for European Orthodontic Society
