Tweed was the first certified orthodontist in the US

Certification Process

- Graduates required to present 15 cases and a thesis for board certification - Written examination implemented in 1964 - Thesis requirement discontinued in 1978 - New Examination Center opened in St. Louis in 2011 for clinical examinations - Certification process ensures competence and expertise in orthodontics
